Iconic Mr. Darcy

Writer's picture: Christina BoydChristina Boyd

In Pride & Prejudice, “rich man offends woman / the journey from enemies to love” has become an iconic trope repeated, imitated, and embellished for over two-hundreds of years. In our first anthology #TheDarcyMonologues, I wrote in the introduction how the enigmatic brooding hero, Mr. Darcy, can be found “disguised with all his imperfections” in numerous literary and movie icons such as Gilbert Blythe, John Thornton, Gabrielle Emerson, Edward Cullen, Mr. Big, Lloyd Dobler, Jake Ryan, Richard Blaine, Jamie Fraser... What other literary or cinematic heroes have you recognized Fitzwilliam Darcy in?
