Recently my daughter, who is a competitive swimmer, was racing in Gresham Oregon. When I realized how close I would be to two of my authors, I made plans to meet them face to face. On July 18, I met author Nicole Clarkston in a local Starbucks. I worked with Nicole when she wrote the Marianne Dashwood story for #RationalCreatures.
She is also the author of several bestselling Jane Austen and North & South-inspired fan fiction novels. We had a wonderful couple hours chatting about projects, our favorite authors, and real life. I even had her sign a couple Rational Creatures copies for my collection and giveaways. She is as delightful as I knew she would be!
On Saturday, July 20, as she was readying to fly out to the annual Romance Writers of America (RWA) conference in New York City, my daughter and I had lunch with author Beau North at a terrific Cuban restaurant in Portland called Pambiche Cocina & Reposteria.
She graciously signed a huge stack of books we have worked on together (nine books so far!)-- for my own collection and for future giveaways, had a lot of laughs, and talked about future projects and aspirations. Then we visited Powell's bookstore on Hawthorne. Who new Powell's had more than one story?!
I feel blessed to work with such great talent but even more so when they become so dear to me on a personal level.
